The PPGCS Selection Process is annual.

Requirements: 

The selection process for the Postgraduate Program in Social Sciences is annual and the notice is generally published in June or July of each year for entry in March of the following year.

 

The selection process consists of three stages, they are:

Stage I - Written test, with a value of 40 (forty points);

Stage II - Assessment of Research Projects, worth 50 (fifty) points, divided into 02 stages: 1) Assessment of the Research Project presented at the time of registration, worth 30 (thirty) points. 2) Oral defense of Research Projects before the panel, worth 20 (twenty) points;

Stage III - Assessment of the Lattes CV (intellectual production, professional experience), worth 10 (ten) points.
In general, 21 vacancies are offered each year, 15 vacancies for broad competition, 4 vacancies for black, mixed-race, indigenous people, 1 vacancy for people with disabilities and 1 vacancy for people under humanitarian policies in Brazil.

 

Prerequisites:

  • The vacancies are intended for graduates of long-term undergraduate courses (full degree) recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC). The available vacancies are for the PPGCS/INCIS/UFU research lines.
  • Applications from graduates of short-term, sequential or similar courses will not be accepted and only technologists with higher education degrees will be admitted.
  • Candidates approved and enrolled as regular students must present a certificate of proficiency in a foreign language, no later than the 18th month after enrollment or until the qualification exam is requested, whichever comes first. 
  • For non-Portuguese-speaking foreign candidates, a certificate of proficiency in Portuguese will also be required.
  • Certificates of proficiency in the following languages ​​will be accepted: English, Spanish, French and Italian.
  • Proficiency certificates will be accepted, valid from 2021 onwards. 
  • Official exams will be accepted, considering the validity declared in them issued by:

             a) PROFLIN-ILEEL-UFU;

             b) CELPE Certificate - Bras.

  • The same conditions and validity periods as other proficiency certifications are observed.
  • For exams that do not contain any expiration date, a maximum period of 03 years/months will be considered, starting from the date of completion.

Research project: 

  • Candidates' research projects will be evaluated by members of the evaluation committee, who will assign grades from 0 (zero) to 50 (fifty);
  • Candidates who obtain a grade lower than 35.0 (thirty-five) points in this stage, equivalent to 70% of the total grade for the stage, will be eliminated;
  • Projects outside the PPGCS/INCIS/UFU concentration area(s) and lines of research will not be evaluated;
  • Each candidate's project grade will be made up of the average of the grades awarded by the examiners;
  • The candidate cannot be identified in the research project under penalty of disqualification from the selection process;
  • The research project is limited to 15 (fifteen) pages.
