The Postgraduate Program in Social Sciences (PPGCS) was recommended by CAPES on May 12, 2009 (MEC Ordinance 970, DOU 10/13/2009 - CES/CNE Opinion 253/2009) and began its activities in February 2010. 

When recommended, the Program received an initial grade of 3. However, since its implementation, it has received support from the funding agencies CAPES and FAPEMIG and PROPP/UFU, for the granting of scholarships, research activities and the organization of events. It currently has 19 professors, all with doctorates or post-doctorates, in the areas of knowledge of Anthropology, Political Science and Sociology.

The Postgraduate Program in Social Sciences at the Federal University of Uberlândia aims to train critical and informed professionals, endowed with intellectual autonomy and capable of understanding contemporary social dynamics in Brazil and other social, political, economic and cultural contexts;

We also seek to consolidate high-level teaching and research in Social Sciences at the Federal University of Uberlândia, compatible with a public, free and excellent quality university project;
Encouraging high-level teaching and research in Social Sciences in the Triângulo Mineiro and region precisely at a time when the subject of sociology has become mandatory in high school;
