Currently, the program has 19 professors with doctorates in the areas of Anthropology, Political Science and Sociology.
The PPGCS aims to train critical and informed professionals, with intellectual autonomy, capable of understanding the contemporary social dynamics in Brazil and other social, political, economic and cultural contexts. It also seeks to consolidate high-level teaching and research in Social Sciences at UFU, encouraging these activities in the Triângulo Mineiro region and the surrounding area.
The program offers the Academic Master's degree in Social Sciences, with a minimum duration of 12 months and a maximum of 24 months. Brief description of the course offering scheme: First Semester: the student will take the mandatory subjects: Sociological Theory, Anthropological Theory and Research Methodology and Techniques;Second Semester: the student will take two optional subjects in parallel with the dissertation supervision activities;Third Semester: Dissertation supervision activities and Qualifying Exam;Fourth Semester: Dissertation supervision activities and defense of the master's dissertation.

This resource will allow for the offering of scholarships, the participation of faculty and students in national and international events, and improvements to the program's infrastructure.
The selection process for admission to the PPGCS is annual, with an announcement usually published in June or July for activities to begin in March of the following year. The process consists of three stages: a written test, an evaluation of the research project (including an oral defense), and an evaluation of the Lattes CV. Places are offered for general competition, in addition to places reserved for black, mixed-race, indigenous people, people with disabilities, and people under humanitarian policies in Brazil.
